Sea Animal Rescue

Dolphins, porpoises and whales all need immediate attention if they are beached.  When possible, keep their skin cool and damp until help arrives.

Other sea going creatures like seals, otters, and birds need to be obviously injured or ill before help should be sought.

Don't  try to move large animals without expert advice.  Swimming sea animals are built to float not lay on hard ground.  Improper support during transport can injure their internal organs.

Large swimming sea animals can be dangerous out of water as well as in.  By virtue of size alone, they are powerful creatures.  One swipe from a tail or fluke could easily injure.   If you do approach, don't move from the tail end.  The tail is he strongest protection the animal has.

Other sea creatures like seals and otters are equipped with  a fine set of teeth.  They may be cute but they can hurt you if you are careless.

As with all wildlife, wash up well after contact.

Most local governments prohibit possession of wildlife, usually, special zoning and permits are required.  Check with your local city or county clerk.
